Ingredients

  • 1 14-ounce block extra-firm tofu, patted dry and cut into cubes
  • 1 red onion diced
  • 2 to 3 green chiles diced, plus more for garnish
  • Oil for frying
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons liquid seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons liver spread
  • 2 teaspoons calamansi juice or lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Sliced green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, liquid seasoning, liver spread, calamansi or lemon juice, and black pepper until smooth.
  2. Pat the tofu dry, then cut it into cubes. Heat enough oil in a pan for deep-frying. Fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. Remove most of the oil from the pan, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Add the onion and chiles. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until softened.
  4. Return the tofu to the pan with the onions and chiles. Remove from heat, then pour the sauce over the tofu and toss until evenly coated and heated through.
  5. Transfer to a serving plate or sizzling platter. Garnish with additional green chiles and green onions if desired. Serve immediately with steamed rice.
